1. What counts as "unwearable" clothing?

Answer: If an item is too stained, torn, worn out, or ripped to be donated to a charity shop or sold secondhand, it belongs in your RCYCL bag! Think of single socks with holes, overworn t-shirts, shredded jeans, or old towels and bed linens. If you wouldn't give it to a friend, don't donate it to a charity—RCYCL it instead.

2. Do I need to wash the clothes before putting them in the bag?

Answer: Yes, please! We kindly ask that all "end-of-life" garments are dry and cleanly laundered before you send them our way. Out of respect for our sorting teams and recycling partners, we cannot accept damp, moldy, or heavily soiled items.

3. Why is there a fee for a RCYCL bag?

Answer: Unlike residential recycling bins (which don't accept textiles anyway!), textile recycling is a highly specialized process. The price of your RCYCL bag completely covers the cost of the compostable satchel, the carbon-neutral shipping back to our hub, the manual sorting by fiber type, and the processing required to turn your old clothes into raw materials. You are investing directly in a circular fashion economy.

4. What is the difference between the RCYCL bag and the REWEAR bag?

Answer: We created the RCYCL x REWEAR bundle to make closet cleanouts simple and conscious:

  • RCYCL Bag: For your unwearable, damaged items that are at the absolute end of their life cycle. These will be shredded and recycled.

  • REWEAR Bag: For clothing that is still in great condition but just doesn't fit your style anymore. These items are directly donated to our partner, Salvos Stores, to be rehomed and sold to support community programs.

5. What actually happens to my clothes after I send them?

Answer: Once your bag arrives at our Australian hub, our team manually categorizes the garments by material.

  • 100% Natural Fibers (like Cotton): These are shredded and respun into brand-new yarn to make new garments.

  • Synthetic & Blended Fibers: These are transformed into industrial felt, acoustic insulation, or carpet underlay.

    Nothing goes to waste—even our mailing satchels are fully compostable!

6. Are there any items you cannot accept?

Answer: While we take the vast majority of textiles, we cannot accept underwear, socks that haven't been washed, peaked caps/hats with plastic brims, shoes, or heavy hardware like bags and belts. We focus strictly on clothing and soft household textiles that our recycling machinery can safely shred.

7. How do I send my filled bag back to you?

Answer: It's incredibly easy! Once your bag is packed and sealed, scan the QR code printed on the satchel. It will prompt you to generate your prepaid shipping label. Print the label, stick it on the bag, and drop it off at any Australia Post location or one of our partner Hubbed Parcel Points. There are no extra shipping fees at drop-off.

8. How many items can fit into one RCYCL bag?

Answer: We offer a few different sizes depending on how big your wardrobe clear-out is:

  • Small Bag: Holds up to 6 garments (perfect for odds, ends, and minor updates).

  • Medium Bag: Holds up to 10 garments.

  • Large Bag: Holds up to 20 garments (ideal for a deep seasonal closet cleanse).

9. Can I recycle hardware like zippers, buttons, and metal snaps?

Answer: You don't need to spend hours cutting off buttons or unpicking zippers! Our recycling partners utilize industrial shredders and magnetic sorters that can strip away small metal and plastic hardware during the processing stage. Just make sure the garment itself is entirely textiled-based.
